The SAR KESTREL Full Body Harness have been re-designed and now come in four styles with three colour choices,
The harnesses have both a front and back attachment points and we have now added a choice of side DEE’s for work positioning that can be folded back when not required for use thus reducing risk of catching and Quick Clip buckles fitted on the leg straps.

SAR would recommend the front be used for fall arrest and the back for restraint. This is not for any other reason than to help reduce the possibility of suspension trauma if involved in a fall and being suspended for a time before rescue. The front gives the user more options to escape the system and reduce the pressures of the harness and if unconscious helps keep the air way open for breathing. Any back attachment will be the reverse of all above.

Suspension trauma can kill and has.

The MERLIN TECH Full Body Harness has been designed for technical access in industry and rescue personnel that wish to have a fitted Chest Croll or the option of a Karabiner attachment. This also allows the user to adjust the height of the chest Dee attachment to give the correct angle of the body if in a fall. This harness can be utilised as a step in harness or unbuckled and used as a wrap around harness. This is especially convenient when in environments where you do not wish to soil the harness when fitting or stepping into it because of danger of tripping.
From years of experience changes have been made using different materials and the SAR design of two front independent waist attachments for technical rope access and rescue technicians was first developed for the SAR Raptor and Harrier harnesses.

The SAR RAPTOR full body harness has been designed by Dave Allport from years of experience in hanging in harnesses and the evolution of these designs came the RAPTOR. A known design of his but with slight modifications brought on by constructive input from users over the years. The harness was designed for technical access and rescue personnel.
The RAPTOR has triple front attachment connections with the two front waist connections being independent of each other. On the RAPTOR 6 there are two extra side connections that fold back flat when not required for use. The harness also has sandwich closed cell foam formed pads for waist and legs giving superb comfort. Polyester webs are used for extra strength, abrasion resistance and have an extremely high resistance to UV degradation. It has open/wrap around fitting for safety when donning in areas of danger, or when wearing dirty boots. It can also be left fastened at the waist and adjusted to slacken the waist connector and the chest connector unclipped to give step in fitting if required. The style does not allow the shoulder webbing to cut into the neck as other harnesses do eliminating the need for shoulder pads. The design of the two front waist connections allow them to slide up putting the user in to the correct sit position and not pulling into the groin area or under the rib cage as the simple designs do.

This was first developed for NCB (National Coal Board) in the UK.
The design of the split chest was for rescuing a worker that had fallen into the coal storage shafts in which they could sink up to their necks as in grain silo's, etc. The strop could be threaded around and under their arms to reduce disturbing the surrounding ground. The legs were added about twelve months later after watching the rescue of people from a plane overshooting a runway into the ice covered river in Washington USA. Survivors that were half conscious with the cold were slipping out of the rescue strops and dropping back into the river.

Putting the legs onto the design would have reduced the possibility of this happening, this addition also made it easy to rescue people stuck on sea cliffs and quarry’s, etc.

The Fire and Rescue services took it and found it can be used in most types of rescue that do not require a stretcher, even confined space, shafts and wells.

The UK Maritime Coastguard Agency is possibly the biggest single user of this product in the world at present. The adjustment loops on the chest gives it a large range of chest sizes from very young children to adults. The adjustment on the legs allows the wearer to be in a range of positions from vertical to sitting. The SAR Rescue Strop is ideal for lifting into a sit position a fallen person who is hanging in a fall arrest harness thereby stopping the possibility of suspension trauma. Also lifting people from water in a horizontal position and reducing the possibility of shock due to blood rush from the brain to the legs.
